Reporting Suspicious Emails

Reporting Suspicious Emails

If you receive an email you suspect may be a phishing attempt, you can report it directly through outlook by using the 'Phish Alert' button. If the email is part of a test, a message will appear informing you that you passed, real phishing attempts will be reported. The following steps below walk through the process of reporting suspicious emails.

  1. If you are using the Microsoft Outlook App you should now notice a “Phish Alert” button on the top menu bar of the application.  It looks like this:

When an email is in your preview pane and you suspect that email is a phish, clicking this button will do two things:
  1. The email will be reported to InfoSec and IT on your behalf – you will not need to send a separate email forward to anyone.  Push the button, and it’s done for you!
  2. If the potential phishing email is a “test” sent by our KnowBe4 platform, you will get instant feedback that you made the correct decision on the test email.  This will eliminate the feeling of wondering whether you made the correct decision.
  1. If you are accessing Outlook 365 via your internet browser, from the message preview pane at the top of the email (not the top menu bar in Outlook), please navigate to the “Phish Alert” button by navigating to the button as shown in this screenshot:
